What is a Direct Care Worker?
A direct care worker provides services within assisted living facilities, group homes, and home health agencies. As a direct care worker you will be assisting residents with activities of daily living which may include; bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, mobility, transferring, and toileting.
The services provided by a direct care worker not only encompass the above listed activities, it also includes helping residents and resident family members cope with a variety of emotional needs.
Some common physical needs of an assisted living resident may include; assistance with activities of daily living, health monitoring, assistance with medication, reminders or cues to take care of oneself, and incontinence care.
Qualifications of a caregiver
- 18 years of age or older
- Verification of completion of training from
a training program that states the training in the level of service the assisted living facility
is licensed to provide.
- A minimum of 3 months of health related experience
- Current CPR & First Aid certificate
- Documentation that verifies freedom from
pulmonary tuberculosis (TB)
- Fingerprinting and a background check will be
administered prior to employment
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
