Comprehensive Online Caregiver Certificate
Program
This training program complies with the training requirements outlined
in Arizona Assisted Living Regulation R9-10-724 for Supervisory Care, Personal
Care, and Directed Care Services.
- The training
is divided into two components: online didactic training and hands-on
training with a preceptor.
- The first step
is to successfully complete all three parts of the online training
curriculum: Supervisory Care Services, Personal Care Services, and
Directed Care Services.
- After
completing the online training curriculum you will receive instructions to
complete your lone-on-one training with a preceptor. You will be
evaluated by the preceptor and must be proficient in the clinical portion
of the training to receive your certificates of completion.
ADDITIONAL requirements for caregivers:
- Obtain CPR/First Aid certification
- Complete and submit fingerprint clearance application. Fingerprint
Clearance Application packets can be requested by calling the Arizona
Department of Public Safety at (602) 223-2279.
The Assisted Living Caregiver Program is designed for
individuals wanting to work in an Assisted Living home or center as a certified
caregiver as mandated by the Arizona Department of Health Services. The
Assisted Living Caregiver Program is divided into three subsections of
Supervisory Care, Personal Care and Directed Care. It is designed to provide
techniques in crisis intervention, medication administration, assisting
residents with their activities of daily living, the coordination of, or
provision of, intermittent nursing services, developing and implementing
programs and services, including, personal care services provided to persons
who are incapable of recognizing danger, summoning assistance, expressing need
or making basic care decisions.

What is a Direct Care Worker?
A direct care worker provides services within assisted living facilities, group
homes, and home health agencies. As a direct care worker you will be assisting
residents with activities of daily living which may include; bathing, dressing,
grooming, eating, mobility, transferring, and toileting.
The services provided by a direct care worker not only encompass the above listed
activities, it also includes helping residents and resident family members cope
with a variety of emotional needs.
Some common physical needs of an assisted living resident may include;
assistance with activities of daily living, health monitoring, assistance with
medication, reminders or cues to take care of oneself, and incontinence care.
Qualifications of a Caregiver:

Verification of completion of training from a training program that states the
training in the level of service the assisted living facility is licensed to
provide.

A minimum of 3 months of health related experience

Current CPR & First Aid certificate

Documentation that verifies freedom from pulmonary tuberculosis (TB)

Fingerprinting and a background check will be administered prior to employment

Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
